Passport and visa requirements for entering Puerto Rico are the same as for entering the United States of America. US travelers visiting Puerto Rico do not require a passport, but must carry a valid government issued photo ID.

TRAVEL INFORMATION
There are international airports in Puerto Rico: Luis Muñoz Marín, commonly known as San Juan International Airport (SJU) located on the municipality of Carolina on the northeast of the island, and Rafael Hernández Airport (BQN) located in the municipality of Aguadilla on the west coast of the island. The international airport Mercedita (PSE) located on the municipality of Ponce on the south of the island.

TRANSPORTATION
Barranquitas is nestled in the mountains at a driving distance of about 35 miles from San Juan. Much of the way consists of winding roads through the mountains. Due to lack of public transport in the mountain municipalities, a preferred choice for many visitors is to rent a car.

El Programa pretende capacitar al estudiante para hacer investigación en el campo de justicia criminal; responder a la necesidad de mantener profesionales altamente cualificados que dominen las competencias requeridas en esta disciplina. El programa  forma parte del Departamento de Educación, Ciencias Sociales y Estudios Humanísticos del Recinto de Barranquitas y consta de 36 créditos.

REQUISITOS DE ADMISIÓN

  • Poseer un bachillerato de una universidad acreditada.
  • Índice académico de 2.50 en los últimos 60 créditos de trabajo académico en el nivel subgraduado, graduado o en una combinación de ambos, a discreción del estudiante.
  • Demostrar por medio de un examen o de alguna otra forma que el Departamento o la División Académica estime apropiada las habilidades de interpretar material profesional, tanto en español como en inglés, y de expresarse con propiedad en forma escrita en uno de los dos idiomas.
  • Solicitar una evaluación de su transcripción de créditos a las agencias especializadas o a la unidad que solicita si tiene un grado equivalente a bachillerato de instituciones universitarias acreditadas que utilizan un sistema de calificaciones diferente al vigente en esta Universidad.
  • El estudiante debe completar los requisitos de admisión y estar matriculado al comienzo de cada semestre académico. Favor ver el calendario académico.

Master in Biotechnology

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Barranquitas Campus at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico has a Biotechnology program available for international Students. The Barranquitas Campus offer an undergraduate associate degree and bachelor’s degree. Also, a graduate level master’s degree and soon the first Doctor in Philosophy in International Biotechnology as part of the Science and Technology Department, which will be available on January 2020.

Our laboratory team established research projects to help and improve, not only the environment that surrounds us, also to find solutions to the questions that threaten the quality of life of human beings. Students may request admission before the beginning of each academic semester.

UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL:
General Requirements for Undergraduate Admission
Applicants to any campus of Inter American University of Puerto Rico at the undergraduate level must comply with one of the following options (A o B):

Option A:
1. Submit evidence (transcript of credits) of having completed the graduation requirements of an accredited high school or its equivalent with a minimum grade point index of 2.00 or its equivalent.
2. Submit the results obtained in the Pruebas de Evaluación y Admisión Universitaria (PEAU) offered by the College Board. The PEAU consist of two parts: (a) the test of Academic Aptitude (Verbal and Mathematical Reasoning) and (b) the test of Academic Achievement in Spanish, Mathematics and English.
3. Obtain a minimum admission index of 800. This is calculated by using the test results and the high school grade point index.

Option B:
1. Submit evidence (transcript of credits) of having completed the graduation requirements of an accredited high school or its equivalent with a minimum grade point index of 3.00 or its equivalent.
2. This admission option does not require the presentation of the results of the PEAU or the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

GRADUATE LEVEL:
The objective of the program on master’s degree in science in Biotechnology is to prepare professionals with knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow them to make responsible contributions to the industry, academy and other sectors of society. Interdisciplinary approach to promote scientific reasoning, through courses, laboratory experiences and research, where various technologies are applied to the study of biomolecules, cells or various products of living beings. The master’s degree consists in 36 credits. The program provides the opportunity to the student to choose between two specialties: Plants Biotechnology or Industrial Biotechnology.

Admission Requirements for Masters’ Programs

To be considered for admission, students must:
1. Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
2. Have a grade point index of 2.50 or above in the last sixty credit hours of academic work at the undergraduate or graduate level or a combination of both levels, at students’ discretion. Although generally these credits will be at the bachelor’s level, students with graduate credits from an accredited university may combine these graduate credits with the last credits approved at the bachelor’s level until completing the 60 stipulated credits. Applicants for admission to graduate programs who do not meet the required grade point index may count the grades of courses repeated after graduation for the admission index instead of the original grades.
3. Demonstrate, through an examination or other appropriate means as determined by the academic department or division, the ability to interpret professional material, both in Spanish and English, and the ability to express themselves correctly in writing in one of these languages.
4. Request an evaluation of their transcript by a specialized agency or by the academic unit where they are applying if their bachelor’s degree or equivalent is from an accredited university that uses a grading system different from that in effect at this University.
5. Meet the test results of any test established by the program you are applying to.
6. Meet the admission criteria of the programs to which they are requesting admission. These criteria shall be established by the Department or Graduate Program and have prior approval of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Systemic Planning.
